Mice require very little food — as little as 3 grams per day. Crumbs behind appliances, open cereal packets in the pantry, pet food left in bowls overnight and food waste in unsealed bins are sufficient to sustain a colony. Storing all food in sealed containers and maintaining strict kitchen hygiene significantly reduces the attractiveness of your property.

Mice nest in undisturbed, cluttered areas close to food sources. Garden sheds, garage storage, laundry cupboards and storage rooms with cardboard boxes and rarely moved items provide ideal nesting sites. Reducing clutter, storing items in sealed plastic bins and regularly disturbing storage areas discourages nesting.

A single mouse dropping in a kitchen drawer is not an isolated incident. Where there is one mouse, there are more. Mice rarely travel more than 10 metres from their nest, so droppings indicate the colony is very close.
